I grew up in the Twin Cities and gained my Bachelor of Science in Urban Forestry from the University of Minnesota in 2009. Under the tutelage of Professor Gary Johnson I was privileged to a wide variety of urban forestry and arboricultural experiences including tree inventory, nursery management, forestry extension outreach and undergraduate research projects.

I began working at Branch and Bough right after my graduation in the spring of 2009. I am an ISA certified arborist and TCIA certified treecare safety professional. I have a passion for all aspects of modern arboriculture: planting, rope & saddle climbing and plant health care.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with friends and my soon to be wife, Valerie. Together we enjoy travelling, reading, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, biking, and making music with the Midway-Frogtown Arborators Band.

BA: Peace Studies
Branch and Bough Team member since 2013
Since graduating from Saint John's University with a B.A. in Peace Studies, I've worked various horticultural and environmental jobs. From the Conservation Corps and assisting in management of a small organic vegetable CSA here in Minnesota, to landscaping in Alaska, I've tried to diversify my professional and personal experiences. Enjoyment, appreciation, and improvement of the natural world has been the underlying motif, and joining the Branch and Bough crew has provided me the opportunity to continue on this path. A great crew and a great company make arboriculture infinitely interesting.

My road to arboriculture started when I joined the Midway-Frogtown Arborators Brass Band. I was studying English at the University of Minnesota when the head of Elm research at the U of MN asked if I could play a brass instrument, after meeting through a mutual friend. From there, I was a member of the University’s Team Tree.
After learning young tree pruning from Chad Giblin, I moved on after college to work at another tree company in the Twin Cities, learning tree work from the ground up, to become a Rope and Saddle Arborist. Recently I was able to move to Branch and Bough where I have been able to expand my work experience to the full life cycle of trees.

Outside of work I enjoy bike touring and maintenance, running, swimming, cross country skiing, and playing music in a few groups around town.

My favorite tree is the American Elm, the first tree I pruned, and the first mature tree I ever got to climb.

Not only am I the Business Manager for Branch and Bough, but I am Andy's wife. Professionally, I have worked in Administrative potions on and off since graduating from college. I also hold a K-12 Visual Arts License and was a high school art teacher for 6 years. Besides working with Andy and our great crew, I do some contract work for a non-profit organization, teach community education classes and am a working clay artist (when I find the time). Andy and I have two children, Willow and Calvin, that keep us on our toes!
